Just what I can google, not too much though. I know of some artists (Chinese and non) who have gone over there and found success in ways they certainly hadn’t here. I’d imagine they have a hell of a market for anything including pop music..
"very cool/sad peep into the life of a fallen rap star" - agreed. DMX’s music has always reflected both his positive and negative energy and personalities. FWIW his acting in Belly reflects the same. Here’s to hoping he can overcome his demons.
As for Minneapolis - that city gave us Prince and RhymeSayers.
Saigon’s was about to blow, back in the early 2000’s in the post 50 Cent, Get Rich or Die Trying era. He was following the formula of killing the mixtapes here in NYC (see Ali Vegas, Jae Millz). Content wise he was on point with both witty lyrics and touching on some real ish. He had some real bangers like “favorite things” and “Pop Quiz.” He was also doing a lot of work with your favorite rappers favorite rapper, dj and producer, Scram Jones. Warning Shots was a great compilation but that was all before Entourage and his beef with Prodigy from Mobb Deep. I lost faith in him when I saw his Saigon dvd, where he was flashing guns and wiling out like a clown. Since then I haven’t heard a single impressive thing from him (maybe I was tuning him out) and despite the hype around this 4+ years delayed album Exec Produced By Just Blaze I haven’t been interested. All that being said, this track is dope and I’m willing to check out what else he’s working with as far as new material.
